Our history

"The first settlement of the township was made in 1832, or about one year before the organization of the county, by Mr & Mrs R Craighead" (MOGenWeb Project). In 1866, La Monte was originally called Boomer. La Monte received its current name from a postmaster in 1870 (The State Historical Society of Missouri). The same year the railroad was extended to come through town (The State Historical Society of Missouri). "This township, in the town of La Monte, has the only first class high school in the county, outside the city of Sedalia, and the inhabitants are proud of the accomplishments of the institution" (MOGenWeb Project).
